Next up in our Sisterhood Series is Alessandra Perez-Rubio, co-founder and creative director of @mestiza_ny. 6 years ago she started the company with her partner and friend, Luisa. They wanted to create a brand that stood for something they believed in, and create inclusivity and legacy worthy dresses meant to be passed down. Her favorite Sisterhood moment would have to be when Mestiza launched their heirloom project. This project is a program where they donate excess inventory to underserved women who would want to wear the dresses to feel empowered at events like prom, weddings, or job interviews. The most uplifting moment of her career is a trunk show she did with the Pink Ribbon Girls, a foundation who aids women battling breast cancer. She was so moved hearing how simply wearing a pretty dress made them feel better. She wants to shout out her badass interior designer friend Hawley for her endless support as a friend since her college days.
